About Me.
Tara Armijo-Prewitt is a New Mexican photographer, entomologist and educator. An observer of life at all levels, Tara's photos depict the sights, sounds and surprises seen on city streets as well as in natural habitats. When she's not working to create educational opportunities for adults, Tara can be found exploring the NM desert, city events or bug hunting in bushes with her iPhone to capture all that crosses her path. Follow her on Instagram @bugeyed_girl to view photos and order prints.
New Mexico’s desert and its vibrant communities shaped my childhood in southern and central New Mexico. After graduating from UNM, I traded turquoise skies for California's golden coast, then family ties and the magic of the NM landscape drew me and my husband back to explore NM with our two kids.
My images celebrate the warmth of community, and the tapestry of cultures. I'm captivated by the invisible threads that bind people, places, and traditions. I am drawn to the authenticity of candid moments, not just in the joyful smiles of a community gathering, but also in the focused gaze of a protester holding a banner aloft, the weary determination of a volunteer registering voters. I strive to evoke empathy, spark joy, and ignite a sense of wonder for the shared tapestry of life, including the threads of civic engagement that run through it. In these unposed moments, we see not just ourselves reflected in each other, but also the collective power we hold when we raise our voices and wield our votes.
But my interest isn't limited to the human stage. I'm equally captivated by the unseen dramas unfolding in the miniature cosmos beneath our feet. Through the magic of macro photography, I explore the natural world and the many overlooked treasures to be found there.
I invite you to step beyond the surface, to see the extraordinary woven into the ordinary, to connect with the unseen beauty that pulsates around us.
Together, let's celebrate the tapestry of life, in all its grand and minute wonder.
